How to Escape the Rat Race: Our 4-Step Process

Escape the Rat Race: What If We Could Show You How?

For decades, the traditional workstyle path has been ingrained in our culture:

  • Go to school.
  • Climb the corporate ladder.
  • Save for retirement.
  • Finally, enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Take me, for example. Ever since I stepped into the work environment, I’ve felt a deep-seated dissatisfaction. The monotonous 9 to 5 routine failed to ignite any passion within me. A few short years after I finished my apprenticeship, I started asking myself:

“Is this really what I wanted to do for the next forty years of my life?”

For the next fifteen years, I repeatedly asked myself that question, and the answer was always a resounding: “No!” But I was determined to find a way to change it, determined to escape this rat race most of us are in.

My Basic Trail of Thought was a SIMPLE One

Instead of working until retirement in 35 years and then living the lifestyle I dreamt of, I would create my perfect dream lifestyle right now and escape this dreary rat race I was in.

To cut a long story short (You can read the complete story in our book ‘Getting Away’ available on Amazon right here), over the next five years, Ann and I built a sailing yacht. We named her Ruffles Spray. She was launched on the 31st July 2001 in Nayland Boatyard in Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire. We sailed to the Mediterranean to meander around in the sun in June 2002.

Are You Serious About Escaping the Rat Race?

Ann and I would love to help you with that goal. It’s not going to be easy; there will be bumps in the road, but take it from someone who has escaped—it’s worth the effort. My gift to you is the process Ann and I used to escape the rat race back in 2001. Use it or don’t use it. It is up to you.

Our Escape the
Rat Race Process

Below (or to the right on Desktop) is the process Ann and I used for our journey out of the rat race.

It all starts with Clarity; most of the time, this is the missing ingredient that causes most people to give up along the way.

Clarity leads to the creation of a plan, which in turn leads to action being taken, which in turn leads to a review of the progress, which then leads to more clarity, and the whole cycle starts again.

What drives all this is a person’s Why. That clear and precise ‘Why’ is discovered during Step 1 – Clarity. This clarity is the foundation block to creating anything you want in your life.

The Process

It’s the foundation step within the escape the rat race process. In this 5-step Guide, I will walk you through how to create Clarity in Your Life. Click the button below or the heading to get started.

Once you have completed the first step, which is the foundation for all the other steps, in step 2, it’s time to plan your escape—from what, to where, to how. Planning is not optional, as how will you know you are on the correct track if you have nothing to measure it by? Let’s go…

The plan is complete, and now it is time to start implementing it. The actions you take daily will lead you to success. Small steps lead to big results. As discussed in detail in Step 1, don’t worry about where everything you need to escape the rat race will come from. It will just turn up, just in time, just when it is needed.

Step 4 is all about reviewing the action against the plan. What’s happened over the time period you planned in step 2 against the action you have taken and the results (so far) that have come true? Do you need to review step one? Do you need to adjust your plan or even the action you are taking? This is what step 4 is all about. For this reason, it is crucial to complete all the other steps first.

Just in case you're one of those people (like me) who skip to the end of the page:

Please start at Step 1 and work your way through. It’s not an instant fix; it will take time.
